A little about me and my style of therapy

My name is Patrick Donley, and I practice therapy that demystifies the therapeutic process and takes a direct approach to meeting the needs of my clients. My experience as a therapist has taught me that regardless of past or current situations, everyone has the potential for growth. If you're stuck, depressed, confused, numb, anxious, frustrated, angry, feeling disconnected from yourself and others, or just looking for perspective, I'm here to help.

I believe that life is about connection with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. Unfortunately, not all of us were raised in a way that taught us to make those connections. Counseling provides the space to say what you really think and feel, in confidence, and without the fear of judgment. Holding this space and the development of various life-skills allows us to build the connections you may be looking for in your life.

Therapy isn’t about mind-reading or magic. It’s about uncovering your true self through radical honesty, learning and practicing life-skills that you can take into your everyday life, and making deep and lasting connections with the people in it.

My work is grounded in attachment theory and interpersonal neurobiology. In short, what that means is we will work together to examine your life, how you relate to others, and develop your sense of self through reflection and narrative work.

I also practice existential therapy, which means that we will build an authentic relationship and work together to examine your life around the major themes of life such as uncertainty, responsibility, choice, love, freedom, relationships, loneliness, fear, and death.

I also utilize hypnotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness (MBSR) techniques to help people achieve specific behavioral changes.
